Minister Rajen pitches for sports as career option

Education minister S, Rajen Singh has called upon the youth of Manipur to consider career in sports as a serious option considering the fact that the state government has been initiating various welfare and developmental schemes for the players in addition to enrolling successful players to suitable post in various departments.
Minister Rajen stressed the importance of sports as a career option while speaking at a reception ceremony of state Wushu players who took part in 20th Junior National Wushu (Boys/Girls) Championship held at Lovely Professional University, Punjab from October 20 to 25 .
The ceremony was organised by International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) on Friday.
While pointing out that Manipuri sportspersons have been bringing lavvels to the state and nation through their excellent performance at the international level of competition, he said: "We can be proud of our sports stars".
MC Mary Kom, for instance, has been nominated to Rajya Sabha as an honour to her feat in the field of sport, he pointed out.
While regretting reports of discord among members of sports organisations in the state, he suggested that such misunderstanding should be resolved at the earliest in the interest of the players.
Rajen also encouraged the players not to be over whelmed by just winning a medal, but set goals for better feats with strong determination.
The nation reserves rooms for the successful players of the state, he added.
The ceremony presided over by IPSA president T Birjit was also attended by prominent sportspersons of the state, officials of YAS & SAI, leaders of CSOs and others.
It may be mentioned that Manipur won 25 gold, 19 silver and 15 bronze medals in the Championship and was declared the overall champions.
