Imphal, February 12 2022:
As part of its ongoing movement for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei community in the ST list of Indian Constitution, Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) has launched street corner meet from Saturday.
On the first day, the street corner meet was held at Nagamapal parking wherein several experts talked about the need for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in ST list of Indian Constitution and also distributed leaflets to people.
As per content in the leaflet, STDCM has been launching democratic agitations for ensuring constitutional safeguard for the Meetei/Meitei community and had been pressuring state government to send necessary recommendation to the Centre.
However, both the past and present governments remain inattentive and failed to send the required recommendation to the Centre.
In the interest of the people, state government should send the recommendation, the leaflet mentioned.
It also said that Indian Constitution will recognize Meetei/Meitei community if included in the ST list and this will prevent outsiders from purchasing land thereby enabling the community to protect their own land.
It will also prevent outsiders from contesting election in Manipur and there will be no division of people and all will stay together in Manipur as brothers and sisters.
