Bishnupur, November 11 2024:
Internally displaced persons (IDPs), who are putting up in relief camp set up at Bishnupur Old Secretariat complex, on Monday staged sit-in protest denouncing failure of both the state and central governments to contain the turmoil in the state continuing for the last 17 months.
Scores of aggrieved IDPs attended the sit-in protest which was jointly organised by Kanglei Women s Welfare Association, Apunba Manipurgi Awonba Amagidamak and All Manipur Progressive Students' Association.
Speaking to reporters on the side-lines of the protest, one Laishram Roma, displaced from Churachandpur Khuga Tampak, informed that though she has been staying in the relief camp since outbreak of the crisis, she is yearning for at least, a day of peace in her own house.
Another IDP, M Bir from Churchandpur Khumujamba, highlighted the grievances of the IDPs staying in the relief camps.
He asserted that the IDPs now want to have a leader who understands their grief and sorrow and a government capable of bringing an immediate end to the present crisis and restore peace in the state.
The protestors also shouted slogans like "We do not want to stay in pre-fabricated houses constructed by the government", and "We do not want to take meals provided by the government" .
