Imphal, October 11 2024:
Art of Living Manipur observed World Mental Health Day with an open house event on mental health at its Happiness Centre, Keishamthong on Thursday with the call to incorporate mental hygiene in daily life.
The event focused on importance of mental well-being and adopting holistic practices to maintain mental health.
In statement, Art of Living said that Shija Hospitals and Research Institute CMD Dr Kh Palin, while speaking on the occasion, emphasised the need for a holistic lifestyle and the integration of meditation.
"The choices we make in life directly impact the pressure we face, which in turn affects our mental health," he said, stressing the importance of maintaining not just physical but also mental and spiritual health.
Dr Palin also highlighted the scientifically-proven benefits of meditation.
Deepa Dave, a senior faculty member from the Art of Living International Centre, Bengaluru, spoke on the power of breathing techniques in calming the mind and reducing the risk of mental illness.
She explained that regular practice of breathing techniques and meditation can fundamentally improve stress-coping abilities.
"Managing our breath is essential to calming the mind and living a happy life", she added.
Other experts from the Art of Living shared practical tips for managing mental stress and encouraged adopting mental hygiene to prevent stress and anxiety from escalating into serious issues.
They stressed the need to address mental well-being before day-to-day challenges lead to dependence on medication.
The Art of Living Manipur also announced ongoing efforts to create a supportive atmosphere in the state, where people can learn techniques to manage mental health challenges in a holistic, side-effect-free manner.
The organisation runs a free Mental Health & Anxiety Helpline (7005658504) and conducts regular workshops, teaching techniques like Sudarshan Kriya to the public, the statement added.
