Tamenglong, December 10 2021:
Tamenglong College observed International Human Rights Day at its multipurpose hall on Friday.
The programme organised by Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the College in collaboration with Department of Political Science was attended by principal Dr N Daimei as functional president, IQAC coordinator Namsurei Thomas Kamei as keynote speaker and assistant professor Ngamtinlun Touthang as resource person.
Speaking on this year's theme "Equality--Reduc-ing inequalities, advancing human rights", Touthang focused on a more inclusive approach towards bringing equality in the society.
Denouncing the recent incident at Oting village in Mon district of Nagaland, he urged everyone to pray for the bereaved family and added that such incidents are "just one of the many kinds of human rights violation" as the scope of human rights cover much more than thisfrom socio-economic to wildlife to climate change.
He also emphasised on the role of educated youth not only to fight against human rights violations but also to promote the value of human rights by enhancing equity and reducing inequality.
Talking about gender inequality, the resource person opined that it is only through "quality education with skills", be it professional or vocational, that the fairer sex can be empowered.
Students, staff of the college and invitees were among the participations of the observance function.
