EYOL calls for ceasing extravagant ceremonies

Enat Yokkhatpa Luptin (EYOL), Manipur has strongly called for collective efforts to stop excessive spending in ritual ceremonies.
According to a statement of EYOL, economy of the contemporary Meetei society has been worsening with scores of families left with no source of income.
Amidst the strenuous economic situation of the society, extravagant spending in private events, particularly wedding ceremonies, has become the norm nowadays.
Cutting of cakes in Heijingpot, exchanging gold rings in pre-wedding events and making lavish decoration of wedding venues are becoming a new trend in the society.
While the affluent families do not face any issue in adopting the new trend the middle class families and financially weaker section of the society have to bear the burden of clearing huge debts after marriage 6f their daughters, EYOL noted and stressed the need for taking a collective stand to halt the new trend, which is unfamiliar and not associated with the Meetei culture and traditions.
