Centre advised against scheming Manipur's division

Imphal, June 09 2024: The Great June Uprising and Unity Day, 2024 Observation Committee chairman Joychandra Konthoujam has remarked that if the central government continue to make repeated attempts to disintegrate Manipur, possibility of the people raising the demand for restoring the pre-merger agreement status cannot be ruled out.

In connection with the impending observance of The Great June Uprising and Unity Dav, a social service camp commenced at Kekrupat from Saturday.

Speaking to newspersons in this regard, Joychandra recounted how the state erupted into chaos with the inclusion of the phrase "without territorial limit" in the cease fire agreement signed between NSCN (IM) and the Indian government in Bangkok.

Subsequently, the phrase was removed from the agreement, he recalled.

He continued that the people of the state have always fought against any attempt to disintegrate the state till date, despite multiple attempts by the centre to do so.

If these attempts continue, it would not be long before the demand for pre-merger agreement status is made, he remarked.

Informing that The Great June Uprising and Unity Day would be observed this year, he appealed to all the different communities residing in the state to participate in the observance.

Committee vice chairman Ph Nando Luwang said that once sovereign, independent kingdom of Manipur is facing the threat of disintegration after merging with India.

Under the central's manipulation, another attempt to disintegrate Manipur commence on May 3 last year.

However, the people have been steadfast in preserving the integrity of the state, even to the point of sacrificing their lives, he stated.

He then said that it is the duty of all to honour those who have given up their lives for the state and urged the people to participate and offer floral tributes to the martyrs.
