Imphal, August 08 2024:
A meeting on "Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 2024" (JSA:CTR-2024) was organised by office of Imphal West deputy commissioner at the Kombirei Hall of the office in Lamphelpat, here, on Thursday.
Ministry of Heavy In dustries director Suresh war Singh Bonal and JSA-CTR-2024 scientist-D and technical officer Dr M Pan-neer, the ministerial team visiting the state to access, monitor and progress made in various water conservation measures, were felicitated by Imphal West DC Th Kirankumar Singh as a part of the review meeting.
Addressing those gathered, Suseshwar Bonal pointed out that urbanisation has aggravated water scarcity in many major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, etc.
As Imphal is poised to become a city soon, more aspects are needed to be taken up in terms of conservation plans of water bodies for future generation.
As such, under the JSA-CTR-2024 scheme initiated by the Ministry, public should extend cooperation to make it successful, he said.
Speaking at the meeting, DC Kirankumar emphasised that departments such as Social Welfare and Education should play a major role in promoting and implementing the said scheme and further advised officials of departments concerned to cooperate and seek advices from the visiting experts.
Imphal West Zilla Pari-shad CEO, Central Forest Division DFO, chief town planner, EEs of Minor Irrigation, Water Resources, PHED, all SDOs and BDOs of Imphal West, ZEO (Zone-1 and Wangoi), DPO & CDPOs of Imphal West, APO, DRDA Imphal West, etc., were present at the meeting.
The JSA:CTR-2024 campaign is being implemented since March 9, to November 30 in all the districts (rural as well as urban areas) of the country under the theme 'Nari Shakti se Jail Shakti' to underscore the pivotal role of women in water conservation.
Despite serving Imphal and its environs, requiring 124 MLD (million litres per day) of water daily, through 17 water treatment plants, disruptions in conflict-affected zones like Kangchup, Kangchup extension, and Potshangbam-II, coupled with the sabotage at the Singda treatment plant's pipeline, have severely curtailed.
