'Unpaid' employees threaten PWD office lock down

Joint Coordinating Committee of PWD Manipur (AMPWDEWA & TMPWDEWA) president T Tikendrajit has cautioned of locking down the gate PWD head office and restrict entry of all to the department from Wednesday onwards, if the authority concerned fails to clear the pending 10 - month salary of work charged, casual and muster-roll employees.
The president issued the cautionary during a sit-in protest staged by the employees in the campus of the department on Tuesday.
Tikendrajit continued that repeated requests have been made in writing to the state government and the authority concerned in this regard.
However, no action has been taken till date, even though the employees are living through difficult times due to The Covid-19 pandemic.
He then demanded the state government to clear the pending salary of 10 months at the earliest, while cautioning of launching intense agitations in case of failing to do so.
On the other hand, All Ma nipur Trade Union Council has urged the state government to help bring an end to the strike launched by PWD employees over non-clearance of salaries.
In a statement issued by its vice-president, the Council urged the state government and the chief engineers of PWD Department to clear the pending 10-month salary of work charged, casual and muster roll employees at the earliest, taking into account of the suffering brought on by the pandemic.
