Imphal, February 07 2025: Malom Apunba Meira Paibi Lup organised sit-in-protest against the killing and arrest of village volunteers by Manipur police commandos at Salungpham village in Thoubal district on December 14, 2024 .

On the sidelines of the protest held Friday at Malom Tulihal Korapung community hall, Lup president K Anita told media persons that village volunteers have been defending the Meetei community from Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists since May 3, 2023 .

These volunteers have saved lives of many innocent people and are still guarding fringe villages, Anita pointed out while expressing that the situation would have far worst had the Meetei youths not volunteered to don the role as village volunteers.

Condemning Manipur police commandos for gunning down a student village volunteer and arresting six others at Salungpham on December 14, 2024, Anita demanded suspension of all the police commandos involved in the incident.

She also said that SP Thoubal should be transferred to either Kangpokpi or Churachandpur.

During the protest, participants shouted slogans like 'We condemn killing of village volunteer', 'Do not arrest village volunteers', 'Transfer SP Thoubal to either Kangpokpi or Churachandpur immediately', 'Suspend police commandos involved in killing village volunteer* and 'Repeal AFSPA from Manipur' .
