Imphal, August 05 2024:
District Hospital Monitoring Committee, Jiribam has submitted a memorandum to health and family welfare Dr Sapam Ranjan proposing urgent improvement in the district's health services and infrastructure.
The memorandum, submitted through the DC Jiribam, outlined several issues faced by the people and sought immediate government intervention.
One of the primary concerns raised include upgrade of the 50-bedded hospital in Jiribam to a full-fledged district hospital.
It also pointed out shortages including specialist doctors, nursing staff, equipment, and other basic infrastructure; proposed upgrade of the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Borobekra sub-division, about 35 kilometres from Jiribam town to a Community Health Centre (CHC); urged for improvement of the Urban Primary Health Centre in Jiribam Municipal area, which is currently functioning only nominally, to provide standard health service to the underprivileged population in the district; and urged for establishment of a post of joint or deputy director of health and family welfare, along with an administrative officer in Jiribam for close monitoring and effective managing of the healthcare development in the border district.
The committee also emphasised the importance of establishing an engineering cell for health and family welfare department in Jiribam, maintaining that such a cell is inevitable for improving the district's health sector infrastructure and services and urged the health minister to consider these requests with urgency, emphasising that the government's prompt and thoughtful response is vital for the well-being of local population, particularly in light of ongoing conflict situation in the district.
The committee expressed hope that the minister's intervention will lead to significant improvement in Jiribam's health services and infrastructure, benefiting the people of this isolated district.
