Imphal, August 04 2024:
World Meetei Council (WMC) has categorically stated that chief minister N Biren should show his statesmanship by resigning and choose a new CM who will work to resolve the 15 month long conflict in the state.
In a release, WMC chairman Heigrujam Nabashyam referred to reports published in national and state dailies of N Biren inviting Mizoram CM Lalduhoma to Manipur and seeking latter's help to resolve the ongoing violence in the state.
"It seems that CM Biren made the request as he feels that the Chin-Kuki community which is not listening to him will listen to Mizoram CM's who is like a father figure to them.
This proves that CM Biren and his cabinet has run out of ideas to control and end the ongoing crisis," opined Nabashyam.
On accusation from certain quarters that Outer Manipur MP Alfred Arthur's statement in the parliament underscored biasness towards the Kukis, WMC wondered how the said persons would interpret the invitation by CM Biren to Lalduhoma.
Though it is praiseworthy if the Mizoram CM sincerely wants to help but if he is a leader with integrity then he should have told CM N Biren that as a leader of Kuki-Zo people he will extend support in resolving the violence, it expressed and observed that a neutral leader like the Assam CM will be more suited to handle such a sensitive and vexed issue instead of Lalduhoma.
WMC also contended that CM N Biren's request to his Mizoram counterpart is akin to surrendering to the Chin-Kuki perpetrators.
As Biren and his cabinet have concluded that the ongoing Strife cannot be resolved without the involvement of father figure of Chin-Kuki, it will be better if they start considering to select a new leader from amongst the rest of 40 MLAs of NDA who will then solve it for the sake of public, it demanded.
WMC further emphasised that CM Biren should demonstrate his altruistic leadership and resign for the welfare of public and play a major part in ending the conflict.
