Women's society celebrates, health camp held

The 30th anniversary celebration of the New Canaan Village Women's Society was held on Wednesday at New Canaan Village community hall, Loktak Project.
National Leprosy Eradicating Programme (NLEP), Noney district programme officer Dr Ajin Maringmei attended the celebration as chief guest, while Akhiu Kamei, a former resident of New Canaan village, was guest of honour.
New Canaan Village was established in 1994 after the outbreak of Kuki-Naga ethnic clash.
Speaking at the event, Dr Ajin Maringmei emphasised the importance of living together with love and peace, and exhorted all to foster kindness and goodwill.
He commended the Women's Society for organising the programme in tribute to past leaders.
Village secretary Akhu Kamei recounted the village's chronology and history and urged for unity and mutual support among residents under all circumstances.
Among others, Buijanpou Kamei, chairman New Canaan village; Abuan Kamei, pastor New Canaan Baptist Church; Sony, pastor Nazareth Baptist Church; Lily Kamei, women president; Daijinmei Kamei, women secretary; Esther Panmei, former secretary; and community leaders also attended the event.
(Late) Archung Maringmei alias Khamchungpou was the founding village chairman.
On other-hand, a one-day health camp, themed "We Serve Because We Care," was conducted on Wednesday at New Canaan village during which over 100 individuals received medical treatment, including free medications and blood sugar level checks.
The health camp was organised and sponsored by Bethesda Foundation for Women and Child Empowerment, Noney and conducted under the supervision of Dr Jendum Golmei, district immunization officer Noney; Dr Phami Golmei, SMO Imphal West; and and Dr Lanjanglu Kamei, MO Khoupum PHC.
Dr Azin Maringmei, founder president Bethesda Foundation for Women & Child Empowerment, assured of conducting such health check-up programmes in other unreached areas in the future.
