Congress party has lashed out against the government over the missing of VDF jawan Ningombam Premananda (37) who took part in poppy destruction operation carried out as part of War on Drugs mission in an Indo-Myanmar border village, and expressed suspicion of a possible group, which the government would not want to deal with.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan here on Wednesday, MPCC vice-president Loitongbam Tilotama said that War on Drugs is a praiseworthy initiative of the government.
However, some of the activities taken up under the mission reflect lack of sincerity, she said.
It is unfortunate that the government is still clueless on the whereabouts of VDF jawan Premananda till date.
It would not be a tough task for the government to launch a search party as soon as he went missing.
However, the government seems to be ignoring the issue and Congress party strongly condemns such irresponsible nature, she said.
The VDF jawan went missing while on duty and it is highly suspicious why nobody noticed him misSing.
There must be some clues to trace him.
Even after 10 days have passed, the government is still clueless if his disap pearance is related with personal enmity or handiwork of the poppy syndicate.
There is also no visible attempt from the side of the government to search the missing jawan and it only raises suspicion of a possible group, which the government does not want to deal with.
The government should clarify to the public at the earliest, she demanded.
Tilotama further demanded the government to trace the missing VDF jawan and reunite him with his family members.
She also said that Congress party is praying for his safe return.
