Imphal, November 30 2021:
Manipur Peace and Integrity (MAPI) Council organised a 'See the place and meet the people' programme at the community hall of Tuisenphai village in Kangpokpi district on Tuesday.
According to a press release issued by Council secretary Th Neta Moirangcha, the programme was attended by village headman SH Nisosel, MAPI Council president in-charge KC Romeo, IMSCOM president Momsokom Bapui, Village Youth secretary SH Obet and Women Society's Nunpi as presidium members.
Tuisenphai village, which covers an area of 4sq km, is inhabited by 235 people of 47 households.
The 2-km stretch of road connecting the village with Takhel is in poor condition.
The students are in an even poorer state as the village only has lower primary school up to Class II.
As such, the villagers urged for upgrading the school and allowing the students to further their studies.
Agriculture is the main source of livelihood of the people in the village.
However, low rainfall and scarcity of water has heavily affected the yield for this year.
This, in turn, has led to shortage of food, thereby requiring immediate assistance of the government.
Meanwhile, the Minor Irrigation Department had dug a tube well under the supervision of the CM.
However, the water cannot be used effectively due to lack of proper maintenance and thus, the villagers urged for providing safe water to the village, the press release conveyed.
On the other hand, MAPI Council has assured of extending all possible help to the village, while also urging the state government to take serious note of the matter.
As part of the programme, blankets were distributed to elderly citizens, along with presentation of football and volleyball for the youth.
