GP member arrested on graft charges

Imphal, May 31 2022:
In connection with a case taken up by Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Police Station, a member of Ward no 7 of Phumlou GP has been arrested on corruption charges and remanded to 15 days in judicial custody.
The arrested person has been identified as Salam Radheshyam (48) s/o (L) Ibochou of Loi-tang Khunou Mayai Leikai.
According to a report submitted to the Additional SP Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Manipur on May 27, a case was taken up for investigation.
During the inquiry, the arrested ward member was found to have conspired with the accused mentioned in the FIR to open numerous bank accounts without the knowledge of beneficiaries to misappropriate huge amount of MGNREGS funds.
Several documents in this regard were also seized.
So far, the ward member is suspected to have embezzled around Rs 86,384 from 2019-20, in the name of different job card holders.
After listening to the IO's report, the Court sent Radheshaym to judicial custody till June 14 to facilitate further investigation.
