Kangpokpi, December 30 2021:
After 10 days of his indefinite hunger strike, Kakai Singsit on Thursday announced to suspend his agitation, following request made by various civil society organisations in view of the upcoming New Year 2022 celebration.
Kakai Singsit began his indefinite hunger strike on December 20 in his quest of justice for three of his family members who were allegedly arrested and put behind bars for a crime they did not commit.
Speaking to media, Kakai asserted that he is firm on his decision to remain strong-willed as the government is showing its rock-ribbed attitude towards his fight against the injustice meted out to innocent people.
He continued that despite the democratic and most peaceful means of protest since December 20, "we have not received any positive response from the government nor any attempt to conciliate and attempt from the authority concerned to resolve the injustice done to Hentinseh Singsit, Seigoulun Singsit and Henminlun Misao" .
Kakai also recalled that many civil society organisations, students' bodies and clubs had been voicing their protest in the form of various democratic agitations demanding the release of the innocent trio but their protest, appeal and sincere request have not been responded to by the government.
"Considering the stubbornness of the government, I was also adamant on my decision and think it is best to continue the stir but the various appeals from several civil society organisations to take a momentary pause has made me reconsider my decision", he said.
"As the fast unto death stir has immensely affected not only my families, but also my neighbours, friends and relatives in their Christmas celebration and keeping in mind the impending new year, I feel they need to be given a chance to celebrate so I have decided to take a momentary pause", Kakai Singsit added.
However, he asserted that the stir will continue after the New Year celebration.
