Imphal, August 27 2022: Thounaojam Bira Singh, ex-revenue minister and elder brother of former Union minister of state Th Chaoba Singh passed away on Saturday around 5 am.

He was 91 .

Bira was also the paternal uncle of present Education and Law minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh.

Bira was born in 1931 to late Th Hera Singh at Utlou Mayai Leikai, Bishnupur district.

Prior to joining politics, he had the work experience of about 15 years as director in the Department of Education, Manipur.

He began his political career in 2000 as revenue minister during the tenure of then chief minister (late) Wahengbam Nipamacha by winning the election on Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) ticket from Nambol AC.

He took active part in social welfare activities of Nambol AC and also of the state in general during his lifetime.

He also had special interest in social and cultural activities and encouraged youth to take up sports, a release conveyed.
