Imphal, November 25 2021:
First-day of the 72 hours general strike called by World Meetei Council from Thursday midnight demanding sending of recommendation for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in Schedule Tribe list ended peacefully.
On account of the general strike, the number of passenger carriers and private vehicles was lesser when compared to normal days.
Most of the shops in Paona and Thangal bazar and oil pumps remained closed.
Protest demonstrations were staged by the locals in Singjamei, Kongba and Lamlong areas to exert pressure on the government for sending the required recommendation to the centre.
Though Government and private schools remained open, the number of students and teachers who came to the school was negligible.
Moreover, attendance of employees in private and government offices was low.
On the other hand, security forces have been taking up measures to prevent unwanted incidents from happening during the general strike.
