Imphal, June 25 2022:
The Iroisemba Bridge, which connects Iroisemba with Langjing is in a bad shape, posing threat to the lives of commuters.
With several parts of the bridge, made with welded iron poles, either damaged or missing, incidents of vehicles getting stuck in the middle of the bridge have been reported from time to time.
Despite its narrowness and non-maintenance, the bridge is an important one considering the location of different schools and other institutions such as Don Bosco School, Pari Imom Sindam Shang and Kendriya Vidyalaya on Langjing side, and Manipur Zoological Carden and Central Agricultural University on Iroisemba side.
Earlier, there was a wooden plank bridge but was replaced with iron poles interconnected through welding after the earlier bridge was damaged.
The welding joints got damaged and today several portions of the bridge are missing.
Expressing concern over the rickety condition of the bridge, local residents have drawn the attention of the government for constructing a sturdier bridge capable of handling heavy vehicle traffic at the earliest.
