Imphal, December 22 2021:
A two-day workshop on sensitisation on cluster activities of schemes of development commissioner (Handicrafts) under Amhedkar Hastshilp Vikas Yojana (AHVY) scheme for handicraft artisans, benefits of e-commerce/gem portal, MUDRA loans and welfare activities of development commissioner (Handicrafts) has begun at Handicrafts Service Centre, ICM, Lamphel on Wednesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the inaugural programme which is being organised under the aegis of Office of the development commissioner (Handicrafts), Union Ministry of Textiles, Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (MHHDCL) managing director E Jeeten pointed out that it is very important that crafts which on verge of being lost are revived and promoted with emphasis on their marketability, otherwise the artisans will not be willing to produce them.
Artisans while making a product must remember customers will consider buying a product based on its price, ease of transportation and packaging, he added.
Jeeten continued that artisans must take advantage of various schemes launched by the government, and they must properly utilise the funds provided by the government for their development.
Presided over by Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) assistant director, the inaugural function was also attended by retired art and culture director Dr K Sobita as guest of honour.
About 100 artisans from various clusters are taking part in the workshop.
