Imphal, January 22 2024:
The conflict brewing in Manipur for the past nearly nine months has been caused by the union government through the state government, claimed Manipur People's Party (MPP) ex-president Laitonjam Borajao.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Monday, Borajao opined that the conflict would not have occurred if the government had seen to the inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list early on.
The present situation in Manipur is due to the negligence of the government to closely monitor the influx of illegal immigrants into the state, which has also affected the environment of the state.
"While people from other states of the country have to apply for permit to enter Manipur, why there is no such permit imposed upon those illegal immigrants coming from another country? Has the union home minister issued instruction for strengthening/completing the border fencing and implement NRC even after nearly nine months of violence? Who is to be held responsible for all those who have died during the violence?" he questioned.
Borajao then said that current unrest in Moreh has been caused by the Kukis.
Although the central forces are deployed in the hill areas, their places of deployment serve as bunkers for the armed Kukis.
Thus, everyone needs to understand who has empowered the Kukis to cause mayhem, he remarked, while stressing the need for the people to teach the BJP government a befitting lesson.
