NPP plans competitions on Manipur issues

Pointing out that the conflict in Manipur cannot be brought to an end by a lone political party or community but require concerted efforts of all communities residing in the state and existing political parties, the National People's Party (NPP) Youth Wing, announced that considering the need for collective efforts and contribution, it along with the Women Wing will organise a debate and essay competition on January 19.Briefing the media at the party's Naoremthong office on Wednesday, NPP national vice president Y Joykumar informed that the competition would be held at Chandrakriti Hall, Palace Compound with theme of the debate competition on "Peace and normalcy in Manipur can only be achieved through political dialogue"; while topics for the essay competition would be "The need of the hour for survival of Manipur and its peoples is a committed regional party with its roots in Manipur", "Strong regional party with its roots elsewhere but having presence in Manipur", "A committed national party with substantial aspiration and rooted in Manipur", or "A strong pan India national party with substantial presence at the centre" .
He continued that there shall be no age or eligibility restriction for both competitions, which would held in the medium of English or Meeteilon.
The first prize winner of the debate will be awarded cash prize of Rs 30,000; second Rs 20,000 and third Rs 10,000 .
Taking the number of competitors into consideration around 5-10 people will be awarded consolation prizes of Rs 5000 each.
Regarding the essay competition, he elaborated that essays written at home should be submitted to NPP's office by January 15 .
The first prize winner will receive Rs 50,000, second Rs 30,000 and third Rs 20,000, while 5 10 people will be presented consolation prizes of Rs 3000 each, he added.
Joykumar further informed that the judges for the competition will not be affiliated to any political party but would be neutral intellectuals.
The debate competition would be live telecast through the electronic media, he conveyed.
