Manipur University Students' Onion (MUSU) observed the 49th anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru University Centre Manipur at the Senate Hall of Manipur University on Friday by offering floral tributes to the departed leaders, who played major role in bringing the university centre to the state, which later became Manipur University.
Speaking at the event, ex-MLA of Langthabal assembly constituency Okram Joy emphasised on the need for honouring those who contributed their mite in bringing the university to the state.
Today, the university has been upgraded to a central university and students from different states are coming here to pursue higher study and carry' out researches.
The present generation should know how the university came into existence.
They should not forget former chief minister Md Alimuddin, former chief minister RK Dorendra and those who donated land for the university.
Manipur University vice-chancellor professor N Lokendra led the participants in offering tribute to the foundation stone laid in 1972.Manipur University Students' Welfare dean Dr L Bishonafh, MUTA president professor Debananda Ningthoujam, MUSU president Maibam Michael and Md Lakee Ahmad, son of former chief minister Md Alumuddin attended the commemorative programme as presidium members.
