Imphal, February 18 2025: Teams of Thoubal Forest Division and Thoubal Fire Service Department extinguished the wildfire that broke out at Ekop Pat in Thoubal district around 2 pm on Tuesday.

In a statement, Thoubal Forest Division informed that Khangabok Development Society (KDS) alerted the Joint Coordinating Committee on Wildlife & Biodiversity (JCCWB), Manipur, about the forest fire suspected to have been ignited by miscreants.

Based on the report received, Thoubal Forest Division quickly respondedto the scene and with assistance of Thoubal Fire Service, managed to fully extinguish the blaze.

The department also expressed gratitude to the Fire Service Station for their invaluable support, and appealed to locals in and around Ekop Pat to refrain from illegal encroachment in the area, which holds historical significance for Manipur.

The government of Manipur is planning to undertake several valuable development projects in the region, it said.

The statement further warned that wild fire breaking out in Ekop Pat, or any deliberate act of setting the fire, could lead to the destruction of the area's ecology and biodiversity, ultimately resulting in the extinction of Ekop Pat.

This, in turn, would have a negative impact on the surrounding community and the environment, cautioned the Division.
