Grenade placed; SFs recover IEDs, arms

Imphal, December 17 2024:
A hand grenade has been recovered from near the residential gate of one Khomdram Nandakishore (76) located at Uripok Khaidem Laikai Lane 3 under Imphal police station, on Tuesday.
Nandakishore's son Khomdram Pramod (47) is a primary school teacher.
Meanwhile, locals staged a sit-in to protest the placing of a hand grenade.
According to police report, the bomb was found by family members around 6:30 am Tuesday and promptly contacted Imphal police station.
A team of the station recovered the explosive and registered a case for further investigation.
Denouncing the bomb threat, a sit-in protest was jointly organised by Uripok Khaidem Leikai Women Welfare Association and Uripok Khaidem Leikai Development Society at Khaidem Leikai community hall.
Protestors used placards inscribed with messages such as "We condemn planting of bombs in residential areas", "Stop gun culture" and "Stop bomb threats without any reason" .
Meanwhile, security forces recovered five Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and arms during search operations conducted in vulnerable and fringe areas of hill and valley districts.
According to a statement of police control room, security personnel discovered a cache of explosives, including IEDs weighing 5.5kg, 5kg, 4kg, and two 3.5 kg, along with 25 metres of Cordtex, a detonating cord used in explosive devices from Korang Bridge near Monglham, Imphal East district adjoining Kangpokpi district.
In another operation at Phaileng village, Kangpokpi district, security fprces recovered one SMG Carbine with a magazine, one country-made canon (Pumpi), ten 7.62x39mm rounds, six 5.56mm rounds, and five 9mm rounds.
