Thoubal, May 17 2022:
Students of Wangjing High School, which is one of the schools enlisted under the government's 'School Phagat-hansi Mission', staged protest on Tuesday demanding filling up of the vacant posts of teachers.
Speaking to the media, Class X student Sagolshem Sushmita Chanu informed that the school has a total of 448 students but with only 18 teachers, out of which two teachers were recently transferred.
Sushmita continued that besides shortage of teachers, the school is bereft of adequate classrooms and furniture and asked Department concerned to post requisite numbers of teachers at the earliest as well as ensure basic infrastructure.
On the other hand, supporting the students' pro test, School Management and Development Com mittee (SMDC) convener Chongtham Suranjoi said the Committee was expecting speedy development of the school as it was selected for the 'School Phagat-hansi Mission' .
However, transfer of the two teachers is anti-thesis to objective of the mission and underscores callousness of the government, he said while pointing out that actual requirement of the school is not less than 30 teachers compared to only 16 at present.
Under the 'Mission', five new classrooms were constructed contrary to requirement of seven, he maintained.
Suranjoi also urged the government to fill up vacant posts of both teaching and non-teaching staff, and initiate infrastructure development at the earliest failing which the Committee along with guardians of the students will boycott classes.
