IMA wants hospital to be declared 'protected zone'

While pressing the government authorities to give safety assurance to the healthcare workers, Indian Medical Association Manipur State Branch is set to voice their various concerns on IMA national protest day on June 18 .
A release by IMA-MSB stated that the protest is to demand stoppage of assault on medical profession and professionals with the slogan "Save the Saviours" .
It informed that about 700 doctors in the country, including 6 doctors from the state have died during the second wave of COVID pandemic, yet the healthcare workers across the state and the country work tirelessly to mitigate the disaster and serve the humanity.
The IMA maintained that at such critical hour, it is unfortunate that acts of violence at COVID work places are reported from time to time.
It also condemned the recent incident of violence at JNIMS ICU.
The state branch of IMA demanded the implementation of Central Hospital and Healthcare Professional Protection Act with IPC & CrPC tag.
It also demanded standardization and augmentation of security in each hospital and all hospitals be declared as protected zone and that persons causing harm to the healthcare personnel be dealt with stringently by fast-tracking the trial process.
IMA-MSB release also stated that it will observe the national protest day on June 18 by wearing black badges, use banners, placards with the slogan "save the saviours" and "stop violence on medical profession and professionals" and stage sit-in-protest at IMA House, Lamphelpat and hospital premises following COVID SOPs.
However COVID and non-COVID services including vaccination would not be affected by the protest, added the release.
