ULBs polls by year end; PRIs, ADCs in 2023

The office of State Election Commission (SEC) is making preparations to conduct the election for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), Panchayati Raj Institutes (PRIs) and Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in two phases.
In a communique, the state election commission has sought tentative schedules of HSE 2023 and HSLCE 2023 from the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur and the Board of Secondary Education Manipur, citing that the commission is planning to hold the elections for ULBs, PRIs and ADCs in the last part of the current year and early part of next year.
The communique was sent to avoid any overlapping between the examinations and elections.
Meanwhile, sources said that SEC is planning to conduct the elections for ULBs in the last part of the current year and elections for PRIs and ADCs in the beginning of next year.
The SEC had taken up steps to publish preliminary electoral roll and make necessary updates and corrections ahead of the local body polls, which have been delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic.
It had issued relevant directives in this regard to the DCs, SDCs and BDOs concerned.
As per the schedule issued by SEC, preliminary electoral rolls will be published by the respective EROs, SDOs and BDOs on September 12.SEC set September 19 as the last date for making claims and objections, and September 23 for publication of the final electoral rolls.
