Imphal, July 13 2021:
The inauguration of Makru Bridge by union minister Nitin Gadkari and chief minister N Biren has opened a new chapter in the history of NH 37 (Imphal Jiribam highway), said Transporters and Drivers' Council (TDC) president H Ranjit.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, Ranjit said that TDC is thankful to the government for constructing and inaugurating the new Makru bridge, which has been a long-cherished dream of the people of the state, especially the transporters.
He then appealed to the government to complete construction of the remaining two key bridges - Barak and Irang, as assured by the union minister during the inauguration function.
TDC is also thankful to the chief minister for ensuring that the bridge is completed in time, he said.
On the other hand, with the inauguration of Makru bridge, the highway is expected to see increase in vehicular movement and it will directly impact the remaining bridges, he said and urged the government to upgrade the bailey bridge at Nung Dalan area into a RCC bridge.
Ranjit further urged the CM to take up necessary measures to ensure timely completion of the other projects along the highway so that transporters can have a better experience while carrying out their duties.
He also expressed belief that the central government will extend necessary assistance in facilitating early completion of the projects.
