MSF shuts shops for hiking prices

Volunteers of Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) on Tuesday conducted drive in market areas and shut down shops found inflating prices of essential commodities amid the on-going conflict.
The Federation also submitted a memorandum to chief minister, CAF&PD minister and relevant departments urging them to take up necessary actions to address the issue.
Speaking to media persons at its Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai office, president Hijam Roshan informed that based on reports about hiking prices of essential items, MSF launched a drive at Khwairamband Keithel, Masjid Road, Ngari Gali, Alu Gali, Nagamapal and Kas-turi Thong.
During the drive, it came to light that almost all the shops had hiked the prices of essential items, by violating the order issued by the CAF&PD commissioner that stipulated mandatory display of price lists.
Subsequently, MSF members temporarily shut down some shops, with a stern warning that they could reopen only after the prices of essential items are properly put up and listed.
Similar driVe will be launched in the coming days, Roshan added.
He also, disclosed that a memorandum was submitted to chief minister, CAF&PD minister and commissioner, demanding action against those shop owners and businessmen, violating the rules of Essential Commodifies Act.
The Federation further advised shop owners and businessmen to stop hiking the prices of essential items amidst the trying times.
Voicing a similar concern, Consumers' Club Manipur, in a release, urged traders and shop owners not to hike prices of essential commodities and appealed to them to stock essential goods for at least three months.
