PTC decries threat to its secretary

Imphal, February 12 2022: Paite Tribe Council, General Headquarters (PTC-GHQS) has condemned the threat given to T Awnkhanlun, who is the serving secretary (Organisation) of the Council by some cabinet members and cadres of Zomi Revolutionary Organisation/Army (ZRO/A).

In a release, PTC-GHQS general secretary Thangzamuan Tombing informed that on of Saturday around 8 am, Kethoes Zomi, TK Zomi, Nathan and five other cadres came to the residence of T Awnkhanlun and threatened him to stop supporting a particular candidate of the ensuing assembly elections or face dire consequences.

This incessant attempt of depriving the fundamental right of the citizens by ZRO is loathsome, and PTC-GHQS condemns this act of intimidation and threat in the strongest terms, it said.

PTC-GHQS appreciates the decision of ZRO not to favour any candidate in Thank) n assembly constituency and let the people exercise their right freely this time, the release said and urged the ZRO to do the same in Singhat and Churachandpur ACs as well.

It is the fervent prayer of PTC-GHQS that this be the last act of this kind and that the law enforcing agencies look into the matter and take necessary actions at an early date.

At the same time, the appropriate authority should ensure that all ranks and files of the SoO group cadres are kept confined in their designated camps.

PTC-GHQS further appealed to the SoO groups to desist from intimidating and threatening Paite community so that the peaceful social fabric is not disturbed and free and fair polling is held.
