State level festival of Hindustani Classical Music held

Imphal, November 10 2024:
The 2nd State Level Festival of Hindustani Classical Music was organised by SEIKON (Academy of Music and Performing Arts) under the Cultural Function and Production Grant Scheme and sponsorship of Ministry of Culture, at the auditorium of Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Music College, Palace Compound, here, on Sunday.
The inaugural function of the festival was attended by State Kala awardee L Devendrajit Sharma, SEIKON chief advisor Dr Dhanabir Laishram and Lalit Kala Academy, Imphal chairman B Netachandrta Sharma as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Delivering the keynote address, SEIKON secretary W Bidyamani Devi highlighted that the academy established in 2013, has been contributing its mite in enriching Manipur's rich cultural heritage and traditions, with emphasis on preserving songs by renowned Gurus and artistes of the past.
Though classical music is the backbone of all music, there seems to be decline in mass support and affection for classical music in the state, she rued and called for greater cooperation and encouragement for growth of classical music in the state.
The secretary also stated that primary objective of the festival is to popularise classical music among the younger generation.
As part of the festival, Dr Rajkumar Satyaditya, Hidangmayum Babutomba Sharma and Moirangthem Cherish Singh performed vocal, tabla and violin recitals respectively.
