Nursing trainees educated on cervical cancer

Imphal, January 10 2025:
Hospital Based Cancer Registry (HBCR) & Population Based Cancer Registry (PBCR), ICMR Project and RIMS, Department of Pathology organised a 'One-Day Cervical Cancer Awareness Programme for Nursing Students' at Banting Hall, RIMS, Imphal under the theme 'Prevention and Early Detection of Cervical Cancer', on Thursday.
In a release, RIMS PRO informed that the awareness programme was organised to educate nursing students about cervical Cancer's etiology, risk factors, prevention strategies, and the crucial role of nurses in raising awareness and supporting patients.
The event emphasised early detection and vaccination as vital tools in reducing cervical cancer mortality.
A total of 80 participants, including nursing students, nursing faculties, faculties, senior residents, and postgraduate students of the pathology department, attended the programme, it stated.
The session commenced with a welcome speech and keynote address by PBCR & HBCR principal investigator and RIMS Department of Pathology head professor Sushma Khuraijam with professor Laishram Rajesh Singh speaking on 'Cervical Cancer - Burden and Etiopathogenesis', professor Sorokhaibam Babina covering 'Cervical Cancer - Diagnosis and Screening' and Dr Y Ajit kumar Singh elaborating on 'Cervical Cancer - Management and Prevention' .
