Jiribam, October 08 2024:
A sit-in protest was staged by students of Jiribam Higher Secondary School at their school gate on Tuesday demanding filling up of the vacant posts of teachers and declaring launch of intense agitation including locking down the school in case their demand is not honoured.
Speaking to media persons, School's students' union game and sport secretary Leishangthem Boby decried lack of response to memprandum submitted to education minister Th Basanta Kumar through the Jiribam deputy commissioner on September 6 demanding despatch of no less than six teachers for the vacant posts in the school.
Claiming that a chemistry teacher Md Soukat Ali, transferred from Lilong Higher Secondary School on July 25, is yet to report for duty, he urged authority concerned to look into the matter.
Accusing the government of undermining wellbeing and interest of students of Jiribam, Boby cautioned of launching intense agitation in case the newly transferred teachers do not report for duty.
During the protest, the students held placards and chanted slogans such as 'depute required teachers for the school', 'Isn't Jiribam part of Manipur', 'ensure joining of teacher who hasn't repotted for duty', 'stop transfer of teacher when school is short on teachers' and 'take action against Md Soukat Ali for not performing his duty' .
