Collected plastic wastes sold to recycler

In a move to address issues concerning plastic wastes, Eco Network, Heirok has sold large quantity of plastic waste, the organisation collected, to Ashok Traders based at Tentha Marongband, for the fifth time on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Eco Network president Sinthangamba Laishram informed that its members collected plastic wastes as part of its Heirok-Wangjing River Rejuvenation campaign and sold them to Ashok Traders.
He said that the campaign not only contributes in bringing a cleaner environment but also gave a source of income to many.
Following the campaign, several clubs and women's committees in Heirok are now actively participating in collecting plastic wastes, he said.
He further informed that the organisation is planning other initiatives to generate organic compost from kitchen wastes and recycle worn-out clothes, electrical and glass wastes.
He sought support from relevant departments of the government as well as the public in making these initiatives successful.
