Imphal, October 06 2021:
Holding the government responsible for the conspicuous absence of some renowned figures in the field of art & culture and literature during the interaction programme with Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu, Cultural Workers and Activists' Forum, Manipur has denounced the organising authority of the programme while alleging of dishonouring the eminent personalities.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, Forum chairman Budha Chingtham said that the invitation for the programme stated that the eminent personalities should introduce themselves to the Vice President and make a brief presentation on their works and achievements.
Such arrangement is highly condemnable and it amounts to dishonouring these personalities, who have won several national and international awards including the country's fourth highest civilian honour, Padmashri.
The government should have made necessary arrangement to introduce those icons to the Vice President instead of asking to self-introduce, he said.
In the past, there was uproar when former Governor V Shanmuganathan asked cultural figures of the state to submit write ups of around 100 words and meet him over a cup of tea.
Denouncing such acts of dishonouring the renowned personalities of the state, Budha Chingtham demanded the government to clarify over the matter and take up necessary steps to prevent similar incidents from occurring in future.
Forum's treasurer Chingtham Ranjit and executive member Oken Amakcham were also present during the press meet.
