Imphal, December 05 2024:
The Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has asserted that pre-board and pre-council examinations cannot determine the ultimate fate of students.
The student body also strongly opposed the excessive form fill up fees charged by some educational institutions.
Speaking to mediapersons at KSA office in Khoyathong today, Toijam Ranakumar Meitei, HRD secretary, KSA H/O termed it unfortunate that Class X and XII students are prohibited from appearing for the HSLC and Higher Secondary examinations if they fail or secure very low marks in their respective preboard or pre-council exams conducted by the concerned schools.
Though these exams are conducted to encourage students to work harder, some schools now exploit these exams as a means to rake in money, he alleged.
Toijam Ranakumar maintained that in certain schools, students who fail or secure low marks in these exams are made to pay hefty fines to the school and then allowed to submit their forms for the HSE or HSLC exam.
In cases where the students are unable to pay the fine, they are prohibited from filling up the forms.
This is a design to ruin the academic career of students, he said.
Teachers should make efforts to improve the academic performance of weak students by consulting with their parents/guardians on time.
Instead, prohibiting them from appearing for the HSE and HSLC exam when the form fill up dates are drawing close is unfair, he remarked.
The pre-board and pre-council exams are mock exams conducted with the main exams as a blueprint.
Their results determine the preparedness of students and show their weak points, which can then be addressed and enable them to achieve success in the main exams.
In view of the protracted conflict which has ravaged the State's economy, the KSA HRD secretary made a widespread appeal to school authorities to avoid charging excessive form fill up fees and to forgo school fees for the months where no classes were conducted.
He encouraged parents to contact KSA H/O at Khoyathong for cases relating to excessive form fill up fees, disallowing students from appearing for HSE or HSLC exam after failing preboard or pre-council exams or charging of fees for months wherein no classes were conducted.
