Senapati, December 04 2024:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the Diversiorrof the Trans-Asian Highway-1 (AH-1) from Tumuyon Khullen to Tum-noupokpi has expressed deep concern over inaction by the relevant authorities regarding construction of the AH-1.Despite a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on February 9, 2021, between the JAC apd the deputy commissioner, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has yet to commence construction, according to a press release issued by the JAC.
The committee, representing all villages along the Tumuyon Khullen-Tumnoupokpi road stretch, renewed its appeal to the state government, NHIDCL, and the district administration to begin the construction work without further delay.
The JAC highlighted that local communities had previously demonstrated their full support for the project by submitting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) signed by village chiefs.
Additionally, a comprehensive survey was conducted in coordination with the NHIDCL and the district revenue department.
The JAC warned that continuous delays might compel them to initiate democratic protests to draw attention to the issue and emphasised that responsibility for any adverse outcomes arising from such actions would rest with the state government and the relevant authorities.
The committee then called for immediate intervention to ensure the timely implementation of the vital infrastructure project, which holds significant potential benefits for the region and its residents.
