Imphal, August 04 2015:
The Janata Dal (United) has taken strong exception to the way some policemen had allegedly used excessive force on the students who had tried to storm the office of the Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro on Monday.
Addressing reporters in the party office on Tuesday the state unit JD(U) president Tombi said that it was very objectionable that some policemen were caught on tapes and cameras beating up the girl students.
One photograph and video tape showed some policemen pulling the hair of a girl student whose hands were grasped by other personnel.
She was also kicked.
He said that the government should punish the policemen within 24 hours.
If it is ignored the incriminating photographs and tapes shall be circulated in the Parliament.
The JD(U) will be in touch with allies and other like minded parties on this issue.
Lien Gangte, the secretary general of the party said that it was somewhat unthinkable that the students are asked to attend classes while the dead body of another student is still in the morgue.
It may be recalled that 14 students had sustained injuries and had to be evacuated to hopsitals.
