Body demands release of Ponthanlung, warns stir

Konthoujam Tribal Women's Association, Konthoujam Maning Leikai has warned of launching intense agitation in coordination with the people if Ponthanlung Panmei of the locality arrested by police in connection with the murder of Athuan Abonmai is not released without any condition, at the earliest.
Konthoujam Tribal Women's Association along with locals staged a sit-in-protest on Sunday at Konthoujam Maning Leikai denouncing the arrest of Ponthanlung Panmei by police without any reason.
Former pradhan of the locality Chingdinliu Panmei told media persons on the sidelines of the protest that she being a mother strongly condemned the brutal murder of Athuan- Abonmai and takes the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Athuan Abonmai by unidentified men very seriously.
However, arrest of Ponthanlung Panmei by police in the wee hours of September 27 from his house in connection with the murder of Athuan Abonmai was condemnable, she said, adding that Ponthanlung Panmei is an innocent man and locals fully understand whether he is a culprit or not.
She also condemned the state government's cheap politics of arresting Ponthanlung Panmei to dilute the ongoing public movement against the murder of Athuan Abonmai.
Locals of Konthoujam Maning Leikai would not oppose when severe punishment is awarded to Ponthanlung Panmei if he happens to be involved in the murder of Athuan Abonmai, Chingdinliu Panmei said and demanded immediate investigation to ascertain if Ponthanlung was actually involved in the incident or not as Manipur police has capable intelligence officers to find out truth in such incidents.
While demanding the government to think wisely and release Ponthanlung Panmei without any condition before facing intense forms agitation, Chingdinliu Panmei also announced that the association will endorse the state wide bandh being called by the JAC formed in connection with Athuan Abonmai's murder.
