CME / Colposcopy workshop organised

The Oncology Unit of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, JNIMS in association with Gynaecological Society and FOG-SI Gynaecologic Oncology Committee organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) cum Colposcopy workshop at the conference hall of JNIMS on Sunday.
Speaking at the inaugural function, JNIMS director Prof L Deben informed that the workshop was organised with the aim of spreading awareness about cervical cancer and also assured to conduct similar workshops to facilitate participation of representatives of other cancer related departments.
Stressing the need for spreading awareness on available treatments post-diagnosis through Gram Panchayat and ASHA levels, particularly in rural areas; he also emphasised the need for free testing facilities for rural women, who are usually engaged in hard labour and lack the money for regular medical checkups or treatment.
In her speech, FOGSI Gy-naecologic Oncology Com mittee chairperson Dr Priya Ganeshkumar remarked that cancer is no longer a terrifying disease, as the advancement in science and technology has made it possible to treat some of the cancer types.
She then urged doctors and nurses to treat the patients with a comforting expression so as to allay some of the patients' fears.
Informing that FOGSI is preparing to launch an application which can help compile a data of pre-cancer status for the first time in the world; the chairperson said that the application will greatly assist in the treatment of patients and appealed to doctors and related professionals to use the application as much as possible.
JNIMS Gynae Department head Dr Thangjam Netajini, IOGS president Dr Pratima Khuman and Dr Ningthoukhongjam Subhodhana also attended the inaugural function of the workshop as the presidium members.
During the workshop, Dr Priya Ganeshkumar spoke on the topic of 'A to Z of Colposcopy, CIN and HPV, LBC Sample Collection, Cryotherapy and Thermal Elevation, Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone, Colposcopy Workshop'; Dr Y Ajitkumar on 'The Cervix Scenario in Manipur and Screening'; Dr RK Vishwalati on 'Medical Ethics', and Dr Helen Kamei on 'Vaccination in Women' .
