Imphal, January 03 2025:
The Fisheries Department has started preparation for organising the annual Imoinu Fish Fair on January 11, coinciding with the observance of Imoinu Iraatpa day, at Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal East district.
Last year, the fair was cancelled owing to the unrest situation gripping the state since May, 2023 .
Talking to The People's Chronicle over the phone, fisheries director Heisnam Balkrishna informed that fish farmers from different districts including Kamjong, Ukhrul and Chandel, would be participating in this year's fish fair.
The department has set a target of at least 80,000 kg of fish for sales on the day, which will include local Sareng weighing between 1 to 2 kg, he said.
Apart from fish, the 120 stalls will have some stalls for farmers under horticulture and agriculture departments, the director further disclosed, adding that there will also be stalls exclusively run by internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The department is planning to make the fish fair an inclusive experience for visitors by showcasing fish and other items essential in the worship of Goddess Imoinu, Balkrishna added.
