Naga Regiment celebrates Raising Day in Chandel

The Naga Regiment, also known as the Head Hunters, commemorated its 55th Raising Day at the Christianity Centenary Hall in Modi village, Chandel district on Friday.
Organised by ex-servicemen of the regiment, the event honoured the legacy of the Naga Regiment, bringing together veterans, their families, and widows of the regiment's brave soldiers.
The ceremony opened with a prayer led by pastor Rt Bebe Jackson of Modi Baptist Church while K Wang-shot Lamkang presented a detailed recount of the regiment's history since its establishment on November 1, 1970 .
He highlighted that within a year, the regiment proved its valour in the 1971 war for the liberation of Bangladesh.
He also recalled the proud moment in 1978 when the regiment was presented its colours by the then President Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy in Dehradun, cementing its place of honour within the Indian Army.
Veterans, who were among the first to join the regiment, shared their inspiring stories, recounted challenges, intense battles, and moments of triumph that defined their service and paved the way for additional Naga regiments.
They also reflected on the regiment's early years, marked by resilience and unity.
As a part of the celebration, Lambung Women Ministry performed a choreography on spirit of the regiment's legacy.
