State native arrested in Delhi on fraud charges

Imphal, May 31 2021:
A joint team of Special Cell of Delhi police and Manipur police arrested one Kangujam Karnajit, whom a court had declared as absconder in connection with three FIRs registered at Porompat PS.
Police sources said that the joint police team arrested him from Maharani Bagh area in the national capital on Sunday.
He will be brought to Imphal after getting transit remand from a Delhi court on Tuesday.
Two of the FIRs were lodged in 2015 and one this year.
All the FIRs were registered following complaints of collecting fund from different individuals including students for organising national and international conferences by posing as an official of United Nations and for helping earthquake victims in Nepal.
He also allegedly sold a building in Porompat, where he rented a room for his office, by posing as its owner in 2015.Later, Porompat PS registered an FIR under IPC section 120-B, 418, 465, 468, 478 based on a complaint filed by the owner of the building.
Owner of a catering service provider filed a complaint at Porompat PS complaining that Karnajit failed to pay the bill for providing catering service for a global youth summit organised by Karnajit in 2014, and police arrested him.
After he was granted bail, Karnajit left the state and consequently, chief judicial magistrate Imphal East declared him as an absconder under IPC Section 406, 417, 420, 427, 120-B, 107, and 34 in 2016 .
He has been missing since then.
Later this year, a woman from Nepal filed a complaint through the Indian Embassy in Nepal against Karnajit and his organisation International Youth Committee (IYC) alleging him of swindling Rs 30,000 by promising participation in a youth exchange programme.
Consequent to the complaint, Porompat PS registered an FIR in April this year under IPC Section 406, 420, 468 and 34 .
