S Achouba resigns as MHHDC chairman

Manipur Handioom and Handicraft Development Corporation chairman Sagolsem Achouba has resigned from his post and submitted his resignation paper to the chief minister on Friday.
During a press meet held at the corporation's office in Paona Keithel here on Friday, Achouba told media persons that he accepted the post in September 2020 after the CM entrusted him with the responsibility of bringing improvement in the sector and promote weavers and artisans of the state.
He did his best to promote the handloom and handicraft products of the state during his stint in the corporation and monthly upload of e-catalogue to enable online sale of local products was one of the key achievements of the corporation during his time, he said.
He thanked the chief minister for trusting him with the responsibility.
The board of directors in its meeting recommended service regularisation of the corporation's staff and cabinet approval is pending.
He also took up steps to implement 6th Pay commission for the staff but could not complete the process during his stint for which he regrets, Achouba said.
He then thanked the staff members of the corporation for their support.
Recalling how the, chief minister assured of widening Mayai Lambi into double lane, twice in the past, he urged the CM to translate his assurance into action in the larger interest of the public.
When asked whether he is planning to contest the upcoming state assembly election, Achouba said that he has no intention of contesting the election and the reason of his resignation is strictly personal.
He also expressed hope that the CM will accept his resignation.
