DMs order restrictions on mass gatherings

Imphal, December 30 2021: In a bid to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the state, especially the new Omicron variant, district magistrates of Imphal West, Jiribam and Tengnoupal have ordered restrictions in activities including Thabal Chongba, musical concerts, celebratory feasts and large gathering of people in enclosed areas or halls and prohibition of movement of any person outside their residences from 9 pm to 4 am with immediate effect and until further orders.

As per the orders issued by the district magistrates of Imphal West Th Kirankumar, Jiribam W Malemnganba Chenglei and Tengnoupal Lourembam Bikram there has been reports about instances of Thabal Chongba, musical concerts, etc., in some locations as well as enquiries sought from the offices concerned for obtaining permission for organising these events in the last few days.

Such events are in violation of the night curfew being imposed in the districts from 9 pm to 4 am, it said.

Movement of essential service workers and emergency medical emergencies will be allowed during the curfew, it said, adding that wearing face masks in public places shall be mandatory and the same strictly enforced while the violators will be penalised promptly under relevant rules.
