Imphal, December 29 2024:
Former Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA RK Anand has Criticised the state government and incumbent MLAs for failing to pressure the government into convening an assembly session to address the ongoing crisis.
Addressing the media on Saturday, he labelled the current legislators as "cowards" for their inability to fulfil their responsibilities.
Anand questioned the Centre's claims of resolving the crisis, stating that no tangible results could be observed.
The state government is incapable of taking any effective action.
The chief minister, his ministers, and MLAs have failed in their duties, resorting to holding two assembly sessions a year merely for formality, he remarked, while emphasising the need for an assembly session to deliberate on pressing issues and accused the government of evading its responsibilities and violating public trust by denying it.
Criticising the Centre's inability to curb cross-border terrorisin,' Anand said that the public would definitely perceive the crisis as being "sponsored" by the government.
He dismissed the suggestions of political dialogues, arguing that terrorist activities must first be neutralised before such measures are pursued.
The ex-MLA also highlighted the failure of the government's attempts to project normalcy, such as the unsuccessful introduction of bus services between the hills and the valley.
He questioned why the chief minister and ministers are avoiding visits to Churachandpur, Moreh, Kangpokpi, and Jiribam if normalcy truly exists.
The only explanation is that they know there is no normalcy and fear for their lives, he said.
Anand further condemned the Centre's differential stance on the crisis, criticised union home minister Amit Shah for calling the crisis as ethnic clash rather than terrorist-related even when the Kuki terrorists are using drone bombs and rockets to target civilians.
He also questioned the lack of accountability regarding a civilian's disappearance from an Army camp.
Calling the ruling party's justification for the Prime Minister's absence during the crisis, citing past instances of PM not visiting the state during earlier ethnic clashes, a "fallacy", Anand argued that the MLAs have no moral ground to hold office if they cannot fulfil their responsibilities.
He suggested dissolving the assembly if it cannot function effectively.
