Imphal, November 28 2024:
The Kanglei People's Confederation (KAPECON) has demanded unconditional release of the individuals who were arrested for their alleged involvement in vandalism and arson at the residences of legislators in Imphal valley on November 16 .
In a release, KAPECON said that on November 16, after the news of recovery of bodies of six abducted women and children emerged, people came out to streets and vehemently protested the massacre in different parts of the valley districts.
KAPECON asserted that shocked and anguished by the cold blooded murder of the six women & children by Kuki Narco Terrorist, people stormed the residences of legislators demanding justice for the victims which led to the unfortunate vandalism and arson.
KAPECON also pointed out that the people of Manipur have been suffering for more than a year due to the prolonged conflict and the recent killing of six innocent women and children including an eight-months-old infant led to the outburst on November 16.KAPECON lamented that the State Government is more focused on arresting civilians who were involved in the protest rather than taking strong action against the Kuki Narco Terrorists who have been targeting the Meetie community, destroying houses and killing innocent women & children.
"The State Government has arrested many civilians involved in the protest, but how many Kuki Narco Terrorists have the Government arrested so far", it questioned.
KAPECON also recounted that thousands of Meetei people who have been forced to flee their homes from Moreh, Churachandpur and other areas have already lost their homes and are struggling for their daily needs in relief camps.
"The MLAs/Ministers should consider the simple fact that thousands of people have already lost their precious homes and family members in the present conflict", said KAPECON while adding that the incidents of vandalism and arson at the residences of legislators were not pre-planned or instigated.
Furthermore, KAPECON appealed to the State Government to consider the sentiments of the people who were shocked and anguished by the brutal cold blooded murder of the 6 women & children, and release the individuals who were arrested for alleged involvement in vandalism, on humanitarian grounds.
