AR seizes heroin; Police recover opium

Imphal, June 26 2021:
Maram Battalion of Jwalamukhi Sector/IGAR (E) seized heroin worth Rs 3.32 crore at Lairouching, Senapati on NH-2 on Saturday.
According to an Assam Rifles release, information regarding smuggling of contraband items from Senapati to Dimapur was received from a reliable source following which a quick reaction team was immediately launched on NH-2 to nab the smugglers.
The security forces established a check post at a sharp turn and checked all suspected vehicles.
During the checking, one Bolero Pickup sped suspiciously and tried to escape and dodge the check post.
The AR troops then chased the vehicle for 2 km, however, the smugglers abandoned the vehicle immediately and escaped into the nearby thick jungle.
A detailed search of the vehicle was carried out during which 83 packets of heroin weighing approximately 830 grams estimated to be worth Rs 3.32 crore was found hidden inside the body of the vehicle.
The confiscated vehicle along with the recovered heroin was produced before the court by Mao Police station.
On the other hand, Wangoi Police nabbed one person along with 7.805 kg of opium during frisking and checking at Chandranadi Junction on Saturday 8 am.
According to a police report, the individual has been identified as Hijam Nandakumar Singh (30) s/o H Heramani Singh from Thoubal Athokpam Mayai Leikai.
The bust was made when the police checked the car he was travelling in (Santro Zing White MN04 P 0269) coming from Mayang Imphal side where 10 plastic bags containing the opium were found hidden inside the vehicle.
He has been handed over to Wangoi Police for further legal actions.
